In 2018, the anthology Open Divide: Critical Studies on Open Access was published. It consists of thirteen critical studies by academics and librarians from various continents. The contributions aim to understand the transformation of scholarly communication as Open Access increasingly becomes part of the policies and strategies of funders and institutions.
Joachim Schöpfel (Lille University), Ulrich Herb (Saarland University and scidecode science consulting) and Niels-Oliver Walkwoski (University of Luxembourg) are planning an update to the anthology in the form of a year-long online lecture series, followed by a new edition of Open Divide. This new edition will provide space for controversial questions, such as the impact of Open Access on scientific integrity, the role of governmental actors, and its notion of the commons.
